2 more R.I.P.s

Two more stalwarts of the '50s British film scene have departed: George Baker [1931-2011], dashing hero in THE DAMBUSTERS, that period drama THE MOONRAKER and others, he was even considered for BEN HUR - and then one of TV's Mr Dependables with series like Ruth Rendell's INSPECTOR WEXFORD and his terrific Tiberius in I CLAUDIUS in the '70s, below with Derek Jacobi and John Hurt; he was also Mountolive in my cult favourite, JUSTINE, 1969, often mentioned here.

Diane Cilento [1933-2011], from Australia, with that distinctive voice, an interesting leading lady in the '50s - THE ADMIRABLE CRICHTON, THE TRUTH ABOUT WOMEN (reviewed here) etc, Mrs Sean Connery too, and Mrs Anthony Schaffer, her amusing turn in TOM JONES, and films like HOMBRE with Paul Newman, and Finch's wife in the '62 Susan Hayward drama I THANK A FOOL (right), THE NAKED EDGE etc. She also did a lot of theatre work back in Australia.
